Working Together
All our activities are designed in response to the needs of the local area, and the impact of the recession and changing government policy on education has made partnership working more important than ever.
Key developments in 08/09 include:
- Our relationship with Bromley Council grew, planning improved provision for 14-19 year old learners, developing improved safeguarding arrangements, and providing more direct support for the local economic development strategy.
- Working with the Bromley 14-19 Collaborative we developed our programmes for 14-19 year olds which resulted in opportunities for more than 200 14 and 15 year olds to study vocational qualifications at the College.
- Partnerships with Bromley schools and other agencies resulted in the development of diplomas in Engineering Environmental, Land-based Studies and Sport.
- Working closely with Social Services, Health Services and youth and voluntary sector groups, safeguarding arrangements were extended during the year, including an emphasis on personal safety, workshops on knife and gun crime and effective health and safety arrangements.
- Supporting the development of the local economy, the Principal took an active role for Bromley Council’s Economic Partnership, chairing the Skills & Employment sub-group. This encouraged working relationships with Business Link, Job Centre Plus, the Federation of Small Businesses and the lead economic development officers for Bromley.
- We also worked in partnership with the University of Greenwich to develop our higher education (HE) programme allowing almost 700 students to study on our vocationally relevant HE courses.
Student enrichment
We worked with a wide range of other organisations in Bromley to deliver the enrichment and tutorial programmes for our full-time learners. We provided 70 different enrichment opportunities during the year to promote personal development and citizenship, including Black History Week, a Higher Education Fair and sporting events for our football, basketball and netball teams.
The following local agencies assisted with these events which helped to promote an inclusive and cohesive college:
