'Apprentices are the future of the trade'

The background
WJ King are one of the fastest growing multi-brand car dealerships in Kent and the South East. They are passionate about their commitment to staff training and we have worked with their Bromley branch for many years running motor vehicle apprenticeship schemes.

A history of success
WJ King Bromley have five employees who have successfully completed apprenticeships with us. They currently have a further three apprentices studying on our motor vehicle courses.

Richard Etheridge, Service & Body Shop Manager, began his own career on one of our apprenticeship programmes 28 years ago. He is a keen advocate of the benefits that apprentices can bring to a business:

“Apprentices are the future of the trade. The training at college gives our apprentices a much broader general knowledge than they’d get if they studied with a single manufacturer.  We like to bring people up through the ranks and give them the processes and disciplines that we use here at W J King.

We value our staff and we invest our time in training them so that they are motivated and they stay – and it gives us a valid business return – we don’t have to keep finding and training new staff. ”

How it works
Our Business Focus Apprenticeship Team have set up and run several apprenticeship schemes for WJ King, including Advanced Apprenticeships working and studying at Level 3, working closely with our Technology School. Apprentices are assessed onsite, and come to college one day a week to work towards their qualifications.
