Apprenticeship in Carpentry

General information

The carpentry apprenticeship is available for learners aged from 16-65 who are employed in the carpentry industry for a minimum of 16 hours a week. College attendance is on a day-release basis and assessment will take place in the workplace. Learners are required to build a portfolio of evidence to prove their skills, understanding and knowledge of the subject. Training is provided through workshop sessions, tutorials and classroom teaching.  

On successful completion of this programme learners will be classified as semi-skilled craftsmen and could progress to the L3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Carpentry.

  

Course content

In-house training will take place one day a week and regular assessments and reviews will occur in the workplace. Learners will work towards an NVQ level 2 in Wood Occupations, the Diploma Level 2, (a combination of practical and theory work), level 1 Keyskills in Application of Number and Communication, health and safety and Employer's Rights and Responsibilities.

Entry requirements

Learners wishing to start a carpentry apprenticeship must first enrol on the L2 Diploma in Site Carpentry course. Entry to the apprenticeship programme will then be at the tutor’s discretion once the learner is deemed suitable.

Further information

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by Government. Training for Apprenticeships for 19 to 24 year olds is part funded, with employers expected to make a contribution. Funding for apprentices aged 25 is very limited and employers are expected to make a part or full contribution.
